My name is Alexa (obviously) but if you've known me for longer than 10 seconds you're allowed to call me Lexie if you want.
I discovered photography in 2013, and opened for business in 2018 when I made the decision to quit my job and switch my major from biology to photography after being diagnosed with a chronic illness (POTS/SVT) in February 2018. Photography and composite art is my true passion and a way to escape from the stress of everyday life. It has helped me work through the challenges of having a chronic illness, and I hope to provide images that will help my clients relax and unwind as well. There is nothing I like better than taking my clients on a visual journey to the magical realm of my imagination by utilizing whimsical colors and elements to my images in post processing. To me, art is like therapy, and I hope my work can provide an escape or a sense of calm to those who see it.
I might be the most casual and rebellious business owner you will ever meet. Aside from being both socially awkward and crazy simultaneously , I have a habit of throwing all traditional business advice out the window and doing what feels right to me (Even if that's filming a "professional" video in pajamas heehee). In the beginning I struggled so much feeling like I didn't have the right style or personality for business - everything seemed so strict, salesy, rehearsed and put together and I'm the complete opposite. SO as a side affect to my photography and everything I'm doing here, I want to help bring a little bit of casualty, color, and fun into the "professional" space and show other people there's really no specific right way to do things as long as you show up from your heart.
If you want to read the juicy details about my personal life (although to wrarn you, I literally stay at home working on this stuff all day X'D), you can check out the blog here!
I vlog every week just for myself, it helps me process my thoughts and ideas. I'm including this one because I was talking about the impact I want to make. This is unscripted and I wasn't planning on releasing it (in fact, the vlog was about what I wanted to say in the proposed scripted version for the site) but I figured why not just share this spontaneous version, since it was what I felt in the moment (and still do), and not structured for film in a way that I thought people would want to hear it.
My Photography Experience
I got my hands on my first DSLR in 2013, taught myself photoshop in 2017, started my business in 2018, and now here we are! I'm mostly self taught - trial and error was the best teacher.
After my style had developed I decided to pursue a degree in digital photography so I would have some credentials in the field. You can see my education below, as well as my awards and publications! Aside from my degree I spend most of my free time ever expanding my knowledge of Photoshop and composite techniques. Even right now as I'm writing this I'm doing photography stuff when I promised I'd take the day off. I just can't seem to stay away from it. *sigh*
